After getting many, many miles from my cast iron skillet, it gets a little rusty looking. So, I have a trick that I use to keep it looking like new.
I just brown salt in my skillet, then remove with paper. Then, I fry fat or grease from fat in my skillet. I coat the entire inside of my pan. I then put pan in oven for 1 hour to let grease set and seal in. Let cool, wipe away excess, if any and "presto" good as new.
This has saved me so much not having to replace cast iron.
