Dollar Tree fridge org.

My fridge can get really piled up with leftovers, foods, etc... I have tried to organize it but to no avail. I finally took at trip to my Dollar Tree and found some cheap inexpensive items to help me get and keep my fridge in order.

Here's what it looks like now...

These baskets hold my lunchables, yogurt and small leftover containers...

Small wire shelf holds breakfast meats(top) and lunch meats(bottom),
while the the other shelf holds sour creams, dips, and butter underneath.
There's still plenty of room in front for other foods...

This upside down basket keeps my breads in order...

glass bowl to keep eggs...

Not only does it look better, but it now has a place for everything and everything in its place. I "LOVE" the fact that I can rearrange these as I need them. The best part of it is...wait for it....everything cost $1 each!!!!

DIY non slip hangers

I have several tops that always fall to the floor whenever I'm looking through my closet. It has been annoying at the least and time consuming at the worst. But instead of buying special hangers, I got creative with what I already have. Problem solved with no money spent!!

 start with a normal hanger...

add zig zag of glue to the edges...

let it dry...

now try it out...

Passed...WHOO HOO!!

This is very simple and easy to do/ Plus it doesn't take a lot of time to do.
And best of all it was free.

citrus vinegar cleaner

I found a great way to add a fresh smell to my natural vinegar cleaner. I have been cleaning with vinegar for about three years or more. The smell goes away once it dries but I wanted a nice smell right away. I still didn't want to go back to using chemicals either to get a fragrance. So, I stumbled upon a concoction I found on Pinterest. You add orange peels or any other citrus peels to a jar of vinegar and let sit for two weeks sealed. It works!!! It has a nice, natural, chemical free smell and it still cleans great! After it sits for two weeks, just add half water and half citrus vinegar to a bottle and clean away. My home is clean and smells wonderful, just in time for spring cleaning!

homemade deodorant

I have a pretty big family and things like deodorant are always in demand!
We can never have too much of it and I happened to find many recipes for saving money
by making my own for my family.
Here it is step by step.

gather ingredients: corn starch, coconut oil, and baking soda
optional: essential oil(vanilla)

mix ingredients together:
1/4 c. baking soda
1/4 c. cornstarch or arrowroot powder
5 Tbsp. coconut oil
1 tsp essential oil

old deodorant container

just fill with ingredients
the smell is awesome!!

this is softer than store bought
you may use a jar to rub on if it works better

Here it is all done!

After using it for 2 months, I'm glad to report that this really does work!! And I can say that the smell is super sweet. Especially for someone who sweats a lot like me...TMI...I know. But it is definitely worth a try.

fast/easy seat covers

With five children at my dinner table.
it's inevitable that the table and chairs will start looking worn out.

hmmm...what do I own I could use

ooohh...a pillowcase

just slip right over the ugliness

now tuck and snug

here they are, all hidden for now!!

This would be perfect for now until I can get them redone.
I can always wash them when they get dirty

trellis=scarf rack

The first steps in making over my frumpy clothes starts with knowing what I have, purging, then organizing. So, today I got started by org. my scarves. This is important, because a scarf can spruce up any plain outfit. My scarves all cost under $1 from thrift stores/garage sales. Remember, I'm trying not to spend any money!!  So I had to get creative with storage.....

the trellis on my house...

an extra one...

halfway done...

all full, up on my cabinet...

Now I can quickly see all the scarves that I own.
I have an easily accessible place to store both summer and
winter scarfs and they are all in one place.

That's not even the best part....This was free!!!!!!!

reusable coffee filter

Since hubs is a huge coffee drinker, I thought I'd try to cut cost by creating a reusable coffee filter. I found the idea online and decided to make my own cheaper version.

piece of felt

cut a round disc shape
add to coffee pot

I'm not sure how many uses I'll get, but it does help on eliminating waste!
Plus I save on buying more filters because I can wash and reuse.

recycled jars

The never-ending quest of trying to find more room in my already stuffed kitchen cabinets, has made me get creative. Now I save almost every container that comes in my home in order to store something else.

My syrup and vinegar was taking up way too much room

I recycled two Snapple jars and they use less space
I just stored the rest out of site until I need to refill again

See the difference!!

Update: Here are a few more.
this is my sugar, brown sugar, flour, and meal

easy ribbon storage

When you do a lot of crafts, you end up with many, many spools of ribbon. But then you have to find a way to keep them neat and easily accessible. Here is a quick and easy way I store all of my ribbons for less than $1.50.

basket 2 for $1 from Dollar Tree
 wooden dowel from Walmart .38

I cut the dowel into 3 pieces
then slid ribbons/twine on for a clean look

upgrade spice containers

I love taking ordinary house hold containers and replacing then with better looking ones in my home. Here is an example in a previous post. This is what I started with...

This is what I decided to do to make it prettier. I got the salt and pepper shakers for 10 cents at a thrift store. The grapes glass jar is from a broken set of three. I love how much better it looks.

New look for home items

I've been organizing my home. I've taken containers that look not so nice and replaced them with pretty ones. Just another small way of having a heart for my home.
(I started with these)

(and ended with these $1 jars from the dollar tree)

(the old dish liquid bottle)

(looks so much better on my sink)

With just a little thought, you can turn anything into something pretty to help make your home look nice. And BTW I hardly throw things out. So, I usually reuse old plastic containers for other things, that are not out in the open. Click here for example.
